About Estherville Fire Department

The Estherville Fire Department has proudly served the City of Estherville and surrounding communities for more than 140 years. What began in the 1870s as a small bucket brigade of dedicated townspeople has grown into a modern, highly trained emergency response organization committed to protecting life, property, and community well‑being.

Our department was formally organized in 1884 as the Estherville Fire & Rescue Company #1. From horse‑drawn hose carts to the purchase of our first motorized fire truck in 1911, our history reflects a long tradition of innovation, teamwork, and service. Today, we continue that legacy with a strong focus on training, readiness, and community engagement.

The Estherville Fire Department is made up of 25 active members, including firefighters, officers, and training personnel, along with 1 Junior Firefighter who represents the next generation of service. Our members come from diverse backgrounds but share one mission: to respond with professionalism, integrity, and compassion whenever our community calls.

Whether fighting fires, responding to medical emergencies, providing rescue services, or supporting public‑safety education, our team stands ready 24/7. We are proud of our history, grateful for the trust of our community, and committed to serving Estherville for generations to come.
